The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is urging Las Vegans to slow down when driving, citing the 15 intersections with the most crashes and the 63 fatalities on the road so far this year.
The top five intersections include:
📍 Flamingo Rd & Rainbow Blvd – 26 crashes 📍 Eastern Ave & Sahara Ave – 24 crashes 📍 Charleston Blvd & Lamb Blvd – 23 crashes 📍 Jones Blvd & Tropicana Ave – 22 crashes 📍 Maryland Pkwy & Sahara Ave – 20 crashes

🌱 Sow and Grow Festival – Part one of a two part event — held May 16 and May 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guests can expect 20-30 minute-long free gardening classes every hour by local gardeners with years of experience growing in Truckee’s harsh conditions, plant sales, kid’s activities, and light food. The events are held at the Truckee River Regional Park in Truckee, CA.
🎃 Dark Prison Haunted House – For the first time in 13 years, the Nevada State Prison in Carson City will be opening to the public for one weekend only, May 16 to 18, to mark halfway to Halloween. Guests can expect two haunted attractions, staged with live actors, high-end sets, games, and optional site tours. There will also be a wine and beer bar, along with local food trucks and vendors. Tickets can be found online.
🦆 Wetlands in the Summer: An Evening Lecture Series – The summer-long lecture series at the Wetlands Park’s Nature Center Auditorium is starting Thursday, May 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first of five free educational events will start off with “Birds of Wetlands Park” with speaker Dave Anderson. Light refreshments will be provided. No registration required.
🧘♀️ Flow Fest 2025, A Day of Health and Wellness – Featuring an outdoor market, yoga and pilates classes, and painting, don’t miss the opportunity to “uplift your mind, body, and soul” at Flow Fest in Boulder City’s Bicentennial Park on Sunday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets for specific classes can be found online.

Political correspondent Naoka Foreman joined Mass Liberation Project Nevada and more than two dozen people from Las Vegas, Elko, and other Nevada cities to Carson City as part of their biannual Incarcerated People’s Day.
The organization advocates for criminal justice reform and second chances. During their trip, participants got the chance to speak with legislators directly on certain bills and concerns that they have.

Last week, Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and John Boozman (R-AR) introduced the Autonomy for Disabled Veterans Act. The bill would increase funding for disabled veterans to make home accessibility and safety improvements.
The bill would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to adjust yearly grant amounts to keep pace with residential construction costs.
“After making countless sacrifices in service to our country, disabled veterans deserve to live in their own homes with more freedom and dignity,” Cortez Masto said.

Lawmakers aim to rethink excessive water use penalties in Southern Nevada. “The Assembly Committee on Natural Resources heard Senate Bill 143 [last week], a bill that would authorize the Joint Interim Standing Committee on Natural Resources to evaluate and review the excessive use fees and other water conservation efforts that impact turf and tree canopy. If passed, lawmakers would be tasked with making recommendations for the 2027 legislative session.” (Via Nevada Current)
