If this is your first election, welcome. Nevada makes voting about as easy as it gets, and once you know a handful of dates, you’re set.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Several dates before it are worth knowing, mostly because they decide how your ballot reaches you.
Elections here decide things that show up in your daily life, such as what your rent looks like, how your school is funded, and who runs your county. Below is the calendar that gets you a say in it, according to the Nevada Secretary of State’s office and county election officials.
Here’s your calendar of key dates in Nevada’s 2026 midterm elections:
FRIDAY, SEPT. 4:
Some context that surprises a lot of new Nevada voters: every active registered voter in this state is automatically mailed a ballot. You don’t have to request one.
Sept. 4 is the last day to opt out. If you’re fine receiving a mail ballot, you don’t need to do anything.
MONDAY, OCT. 5 TO MONDAY, OCT. 12:
Mail ballots go out to voters who live in Nevada during this window. Watch your mailbox, and make sure your county has your current address before it starts.
TUESDAY, OCT. 6:
The last day to register, or update your registration, by mail or in person the standard way.
Nevada doesn’t cut you off here, though. The entries below explain the other ways to register.
SATURDAY, OCT. 17 TO FRIDAY, OCT. 30:
Early in-person voting. You can walk into any early voting site in your county and vote before Election Day.
You can also register in person during this window and vote the same day. First-time registrants should bring an accepted Nevada ID, such as a current Nevada driver’s license, Nevada ID card, or Nevada Tribal ID.
If you’re registering or updating your information during the same-day registration period, check your county’s requirements before you go.
Early voting hours and locations vary by county, so check with your county election office before you go.
TUESDAY, OCT. 20:
If you only catch one date on this list, catch this one: Oct. 20 is the last day to register or update your registration online and still get a ballot mailed to you.
After Oct. 20, you can register, but the ballot stops coming to your mailbox, which means voting in person and a few extra rules.
If you want a ballot to show up at your door, handle it before this date. It takes a couple of minutes to register to vote or check that your registration is current.
TUESDAY, NOV. 3:
Election Day: Polls are open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Same-day registration is available through Nov. 3. If you register online during the same-day registration period, you still need to vote in person.
Hand-delivered ballots and drop boxes close at 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to vote. Stay in line.
SATURDAY, NOV. 7:
The deadline for mailed ballots to arrive and still count. The cutoff is 5 p.m.
Unlike some states, Nevada counts a ballot postmarked by Nov. 3 as long as it reaches the county by this date. If you’re mailing yours, get it postmarked on or before Election Day.
Still not sure where you stand? You can check or update your voter registration online in a couple of minutes.
