Cielo Tejido Proyecto Comunitario/Community Project Cielo Tejido

Tuesday, May 26, 1-3 p.m. (Las Vegas)

This class is a beginners crochet class to teach the five patterns we will use for the community project Cielo Tejido—an English-Spanish program at the East Las Vegas Library. This year’s theme is inspired by Jalisco, Mexico. Staff and community members will be crocheting large hexagons in five different patterns and stitch them together to create a large woven sky canopy by November.

Those who already know how to crochet are called to action as well. Be part in creating a colorful and vibrant representation of the talent and creativity of your community. The Cielo Tejido will be on display the week of Dia de Muertos leading up to the main event.

Philippine Heritage Dancers: Sayaw at Kultura

Thursday, May 28, 7 p.m. (Las Vegas)

Join us for an unforgettable evening that celebrates and honors the beauty, history and diversity of Filipino heritage through traditional cultural dances at the Charleston Heights Arts Center (800 Brush St.) Enjoy community and cultural vendors and a meet-and-greet with cultural performers (doors open at 6 p.m.) Tickets range from $15 to $25 and can be purchased online.

Annual Garden Club Plant Sale

Saturday, May 30, 7 a.m. (Elko)

Come grab Elko County-grown plants and shrubs, as well as vegetables at the annual Garden Club Plant Sale starting at 7 a.m. until plants run out. GBC Ceramics will be joining with locally made planters. This is a cash only event.

Heritage Park Gardens Plant Faire

Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (Gardnerville)

Get a jump start on your garden with locally grown starter plants. There will also be garden goodies available to purchase to bring some beauty and charm to your garden. Come explore Heritage Park Gardens (1461 Ezell St.), the pride of Main Street Gardnerville. Heritage Park Gardens is a community garden project made possible through 100% volunteer efforts and donations.

Silverado Ranch Community Center Block Party

Free community block party at Silverado Ranch Community Center (9855 Gilespie St.) celebrating local programs and activities. Enjoy music, games, food and drinks, bounce houses, a tie-dye station, and showcases featuring teachers and students from the community center. Free and open to the public.

Madama Butterfly The Opera in Concert

The International Opera Institute will present Puccini’s opera “Madama Butterfly” in concert at Whitney Library featuring voices from the Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and New York’s Chautauqua Opera Company. Taking Place in Japan, the opera is a tale about an American Naval Officer and a young Japanese Geisha that will take you through love, betrayal, and heartbreak. Free and open to the public.

Sierra Nevada Ballet’s Grand Performance Showcase

Reno River Festival

May 29-31 (Reno)

RiverFest is a three-day outdoor adventure at Idlewild Park. The festival features 30 acts on two stages, food, local craft beer, shopping, adrenaline-pumping thrill rides, an 18-hole Bucket Golf course, yoga in the park, a dog park, a festival scavenger hunt, and a raft ride down the Truckee River.
