Mike Oregano comes to the West Charleston Library with his “One Man Band” performing a blend of reggae, hip hop, and jazz. Mike uses his feet to hit the drums and an array of pedal boards, complete with: loopers, bass splits, synthesizer sounds, and more. He records the rhythm section (guitar and bass) on the spot, and layers it with drums, solos, and fills, all while singing, rapping, or talk boxing, and simultaneously soloing on his guitar.
Taiko & Traditions: A Day of Japanese Arts
Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (Las Vegas)
Come to the Atomic Museum for a day full of Japanese culture featuring Taiko drum performances, a traditional Tendo Baikoki dance demonstration and hands-on activity stations where visitors can explore Japanese calligraphy, origami folding and introductory Japanese language learning. Price included with museum admission.

The Strange-Air Painting workshop by The Potentialist Workshop (836 E 2nd St.) is a twist on traditional Plein-Air Painting, allowing individuals to learn painting techniques in a beautiful natural setting with bizarre elements like performance artists, temporary sculpture and costumed models. All materials will be provided including canvases, paint and easels. This event is open to all ages and skill levels. Register online.
Saturday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-noon (Elko)
Join the Northeastern Nevada Museum (1515 Idaho St) for their monthly free children’s program. This weekend will be the 50th anniversary of Silver the Bald Eagle arriving to the museum. The event will start with a short tribute film about Silver’s life and connection to the Elko area. Then participants will make a picture of an eagle and explore the museum.
Friends of Washoe County Library Book Sale
Aug. 1-9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (Reno)
Come to the Reno Town Mall (4001 S Virginia St) and find a large selection of books, DVDs, and CDs. Cash, checks, and credit cards accepted. Help raise money for the Washoe County Library System, that could benefit and support numerous free programs at all of the library branches, books and materials not funded by Washoe County, staff development and training, technology, and marketing.
