Nye County has become the first municipality in Nevada to outright ban data centers, with commissioners voting 5–0 to prohibit their construction and operation in Hydrographic Basin 162, one of the state’s most over-appropriated water basins. The decision came after months of local opposition over water use and could effectively block the proposed 900-acre Manse Technology Campus in Pahrump. The developer estimated the project would use about 300 acre-feet of water annually at full buildout.
