SHE Weekend, Flavor Flav’s celebration for Team USA’s women athletes, arrived yesterday with a parade on the Las Vegas Strip
The weekend bash recognizes over 100 women who competed at the Olympics in Italy earlier this year, including the gold-medal-winning U.S. hockey team and the skeleton/bobsled team. In addition to yesterday’s parade, the athletes are also being treated to dinners and shows, and being part of community events.

The best time to watch meteor showers is when the sky is dark during the new moon phase or before the moon rises. That’s great news for Nevadans hoping to catch the summer’s most popular meteor shower, the Perseids in mid-August, which coincides with a new moon.
We’ll have similar conditions for what is usually the strongest meteor shower of the year, the Geminids, in mid-December.
The next meteor shower event is July 30-31.

In the past year, the After Market food pantry has served about 4,300 households—2,500 of them new—meaning they’d never relied on food assistance before.
DeWayne McCoy attributes the growing demand to impacts of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which has kicked off nearly 70,000 Nevadans off of SNAP.
“We are in the process of serving as many people as we can on a daily basis, anywhere between 150 to about 200 people a day,” McCoy said at an event for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Aaron Ford. “Unfortunately with all of the changes, our retail side, which is our sustainability piece, has dropped dramatically.”
Grocery sales have dropped about 40% in the past year, McCoy said, while pantry-use has climbed as much as 45%. As a result, he’s had to furlough four employees to offset the loss of revenue.

“The Boulder City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to appeal the approval of what officials say would be the first data center on U.S. Bureau of Land Management land. The appeal follows a June 26 decision by the Bureau of Land Management to approve the construction of the Townsite Data Center on an 81-acre plot of BLM land in the Eldorado Valley desert about three miles southwest of Boulder City residences.”

At the time, LVMPD officers conducted a records check and found no outstanding warrants on the individual. They removed the handcuff from his wrist and notified ICE.’”
