Friday’s announcement is just the latest round of student debt cancellation enacted by the Biden administration, which has approved relief for more than 4.3 million people so far, including 22,710 people in Nevada.
A majority of the allocated funds will go to teachers, in an effort to help attract and retain educators in the state.
The president’s plan builds on existing debt cancellation efforts and would extend loan relief to more than 30 million borrowers.
The chosen firm will then be tasked with identifying qualified candidates for the position. Although the board hasn’t decided yet whether it will pursue a local or nationwide search, it is aiming for the new superintendent to be in place by Nov. 1 or sooner.
Through improvements to the public service Loan Forgiveness Program, the Biden administration has canceled loans for more than 871,000 public service workers.
