Nevada Republicans Reject Dolores Huerta Day Bill

Assemblymember Cinthia Moore of Southern Nevada introduced AB98, a bill that would see Nevada observe “Dolores Huerta Day” on April 10th of each year in honor of the labor activist and Chicano civil rights leader.

The bill — which comes after North Las Vegas opened the doors to the Dolores Huerta Community Center — mandates that the governor issue a yearly proclamation recognizing the day and encourages public schools and educational institutions to educate students about Dolores Huerta’s life and work.

AB98 passed out of the Assembly along party lines, with every Republican voting no. Now, it’s headed for a work session in the Senate. If it passes again along strict party lines, Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo would decide whether to sign or veto it once it reaches his desk.

"Don't stay under a rock." - Citlalli Avilez, May Day protest attendee

More than a thousand people gathered on the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday to protest President Trump's immigration policies.

The protest in front of the Paris Hotel & Casino was one of many held across the country on May Day.

Also known as International Workers' Day, May Day was established in 1889 to highlight the massive labor movement in the United States, which led to the 8-hour workday.
