Nevada Senators secure $15 million for low-income energy cost assistance

More than $15 million in carveouts from the new federal budget and the 2022 Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act has been awarded to a program that helps Nevada families pay energy bills. 

A program designed to help low-income families across the state pay home heating bills in the winter and air conditioning bills in the summer has received $15 million in new federal funding, according to Nevada Democratic US Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen. 

More than $15 million in carveouts from the new federal budget and the 2022 Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act has been awarded to the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Senators said. The program is designed to prevent energy shutoffs and restore services, as well as subsidize energy-related home repairs or efficiency upgrades. 

“Lowering costs is one of my top priorities, and I’m proud to see these funds I helped secure coming into Nevada to help working families afford their energy bills,” Cortez Masto said in a joint release with Rosen. 

“High energy costs are squeezing hardworking Nevada families, and I’m fully committed to doing everything I can to provide some relief,” added Rosen.
