Hey, Nevadans!

The weather this weekend might actually be nice enough to spend outdoors! And Saturday is National Public Lands Day, what better day to go out and enjoy Nevada’s national parks and those around the state?

How to visit a national park on Saturday—for free

Have you been to Great Basin National Park yet?

It’s about 300 miles from Las Vegas (a 4.5-hour drive) and about 400 miles from Reno (a 6-hour drive). For our readers in Elko, the Great Basin is still more than 3 hours away. But I hear it’s worth it!

Fighting a health insurance denial? Here are 7 tips to help

To control costs, nearly all health insurers use a system called prior authorization, which requires patients or their providers to seek approval before they can get certain procedures, tests, and prescriptions.

Denials can be appealed, but nearly half of insured adults who received a prior authorization denial in the past two years reported the appeals process was either somewhat or very difficult, according to a July poll published by KFF, a health information nonprofit that includes KFF Health News.

Here are tips to consider when faced with a prior authorization denial.

Nevada Secretary of State concerned about DOJ requests for voter data: “[Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar] and his Michigan counterpart, Jocelyn Benson, said the U.S. Justice Department requested voter data, which includes social security numbers, but has not provided any answers about how they would use or protect that data.” (News 3 Las Vegas)
Nevada wants to help workers save for retirement: “Nearly 600,000 Nevadans do not have access to a 401 (k) or pension through their job, according to AARP. That’s why Nevada lawmakers created a state-facilitated retirement savings program for private-sector employees called the Nevada Employee Savings Trust (NEST).” (Listen at KUNR)
