“The document calls for scrapping Yucca Mountain in Nevada as the nation’s sole site for storing high-level nuclear waste and instead allow states to step up. The White House is seeking legal changes to allow DOE to choose one or more sites ‘in willing states’ to host so-called nuclear life-cycle innovation campuses for nuclear activities—including fuel production, recycling and disposition.”

“The litigation comes weeks after state lawmakers questioned corrections officials about the number of deaths in Nevada prisons … Of the 166 deaths corrections officials presented to state lawmakers in July, 98 were classified as natural … State Sen. Melanie Scheible, who chairs the committee, said at the time the 166 figure ‘sounds like a lot of unexplained deaths to me.’”
