“In December 2023, two Nevada district attorneys filed a motion to [bring back a 1985 law that required unmarried and patients under 18 to notify their parent or guardian before getting an abortion], arguing that the previous judgment was no longer fair after Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022. On May 28, the state supreme court ruled that the law will not go into effect and instructed the district court to put the federal injunction back in place.”

“As of mid-May, Nevada has already faced 76 wildfires which have progressively grown larger as the state’s record low snowpack has all but disappeared much earlier in the season than years past …. The U.S. Drought Monitor has declared all of Nevada under at least the most minor classification of drought. The northern portion of Elko County is experiencing the worst of the drought, reaching extreme and exceptional drought conditions.”

“Under the proposal, herbicides would be applied by trained crews using backpack sprayers. Aerial spraying would not be allowed. The plan also includes restrictions such as no application within 100 feet of water bodies and no spraying before forecasted heavy rain. The forest service said that if any glyphosate were to reach water, the levels would be very small and would remain below federal drinking water safety standards.”
