For Nevadans looking for a town that falls somewhere between the glitz of Las Vegas and the quiet of the Silver State’s rural communities, HGTV has a recommendation.
The network rounded up 20 of the best mid-sized cities in the U.S., with one Nevada town making the list for its small-town charm and big-city perks.
Here’s a look at what HGTV says are the nation’s best mid-sized cities.
What is the best mid-sized city in Nevada?
According to HGTV, Henderson is the best mid-sized city in Nevada.
Just 20 minutes southeast of Las Vegas, HGTV noted that visitors can explore the Lion Habitat Ranch, the Clark County Museum and the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, all located in Henderson, and still take a short drive to enjoy the sights of Las Vegas.
HGTV also highlighted the city’s “year-round sunshine, zero state income taxes and outdoor recreation” as reasons it made the list.
Is Henderson, Nevada, a good place to live?
Henderson is known for its proximity to Las Vegas and its extensive outdoor recreation. According to the city’s website, it has 74 parks.
Schools in Henderson also rank highly at the elementary, middle and high school levels, according to U.S. News and World Report.
As HGTV mentioned, Nevada also does not have a state income tax and Southern Nevada’s warm climate make the area appealing, especially for retirees.
Is Henderson expensive?
A GoBankingRates study found that a single resident in Henderson needs more than $109,803 annually to afford living in the Southern Nevada city. For comparison, Reno topped the list, with singles needing $114,894 to live comfortably in the Biggest Little City.
