@nevadannews A new senior housing community is expected to open this fall with 171 units to help address southern Nevada’s affordable housing crisis. But with more than 700 applicants on the waitlist, the project can only go so far. To address the lack of affordable housing in southern Nevada, the federal, state, and local governments are investing and awarding hundreds of millions of dollars, but the state still has a shortage of about 78,000 affordable homes. Just this week, the Clark County Commissioners approved nearly $66.3 million in funding for housing projects. The funding will go to nine applicants for the construction or rehabilitation of more than 1,200 units for certain low-income families and seniors over the next couple of years. Thank you for taking the time to read our work. Before you go, we hope you'll consider supporting our values-driven journalism, especially during an election year where so much is at stake for Nevadans and our future.
Since day one, our goal here at The Nevadan / El Nevadense has always been to empower people across the state with fact-based news and information. We believe that when people are armed with knowledge about what's happening in their local, state, and federal governments—including who is working on their behalf and who is actively trying to block efforts aimed at improving the daily lives of Nevada families—they will be inspired to become civically engaged.
