Hi, Nevadans!

The first day of school is fast approaching! On Aug. 11, nearly half a million K-12 students in Nevada will be heading back to the classroom.

Below you’ll find some reminders for the Clark County and Washoe County school districts to have a smooth start.

Don’t forget that CCSD implemented new safety measures last year, including a requirement that students wear their school IDs on lanyards and put their phones away in a signal-blocking pouch to limit distractions.

What to know for the 2025-2026 school year

Clark County School District:

– If for any reason you would like your student to attend a school different from the one assigned in your zone, you can request a change until Aug. 22. This does not guarantee that the change can be made, as some schools may no longer have space for additional students.

– Don’t forget to verify the bus stop, especially if your child attends a magnet school, since stops are designated at centralized locations throughout the county. You can also get information by downloading the Onboard app, which tracks school buses and shows their routes.

Washoe County School District:

– WCSD has a new partnership with RTC, and while it’s not the same as the yellow school bus system, students under 18 can ride the public buses for free. Whether they need reliable transportation to school, summer programs, jobs, or other opportunities. As of June 7, students can download the pass onto their phone, which is valid until June 31, 2026.

Back-to-school fairs in the Las Vegas area

Back-to-school resource fair — Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Cannon Junior High (5850 Euclid St.)

– Free backpacks, school supplies, health screenings, immunizations, and other resources

Back-to-school supply distribution and resource fair — Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. East Las Vegas Community Center (250 N. Eastern Ave.)

– Free school supplies for students (while supplies last, student must be present to receive supplies) and community resource booths

Cox back-to-school fairs — There will be more than 30 community agencies and organizations as well as CCSD departments, providing families with resources. Immunization clinics will also be available.

– Saturday, July 26, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Galleria at Sunset (1300 W. Sunset Road)

– Saturday, Aug. 2, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Downtown Summerlin (2025 Festival Plaza Drive)

– Saturday, Aug. 9, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Meadows Mall (4300 Meadows Lane)

Back-to-School Fair with Nevada Treasury — Friday, Aug. 1, 5-7 p.m. Rancho High School (1900 Searles Ave.)

Bonus: The Las Vegas Indian Center is accepting school supply donations through July 31 for its back-to-school fair being held Aug. 31.
