Hello, Nevadans!

Last weekend, I took a little hike in Laughlin’s Grapevine Canyon (lovely and intriguing, by the way!) and the park ranger on site warned us the rattlesnakes were out already. I didn’t see or hear any, but it was a good reminder that we’re in their space when we visit these sites.

I also learned recently from another ranger that some rattlesnakes sometimes adapt to not rattle because it could actually attract humans instead of scaring them off. 😳

The weather is warming up, days are getting longer and Nevadans might be inspired to go out for hikes more often. One thing to keep in mind while on the trail is the possibility of seeing a snake. But how do you know if it’s dangerous?

It’s unlikely you’ll see a dangerous snake in Northern Nevada, given only one species of venomous snakes that live in the state resides there. This species of snake is typically antisocial and avoids humans.

However, in Southern Nevada, people should still be prepared for what they will come across on the trail.

Local news is essential for democracy.

“Last month, the Nevada Pharmacy Board levied $10,000 fines against a doctor and a pharmacist who are licensed in California but who don’t have permission to practice in Nevada … The citations stem from an incident in July at the Revolution Against Aging and Death Festival, which is put on by an Arizona-based organization that promises pathways to an ‘unlimited lifespan.’”
