It’s November, is it time to start thinking about Thanksgiving dinner? You might want to start planning now if you’re looking to eat out—there are some places already taking reservations.

Speaking of seasons of giving, some of our neighbors are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table for their families. During times of uncertainty, nonprofit organizations like Three Square, The Just One Project, and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada are essential. If you’re able to, consider donating—whether it’s money, food, or your time.

Food insecurity: How you can make an impact in your community

Donating money allows food banks to purchase food in bulk and deliver more meals where they are needed most. You can also sign up to volunteer—it takes a community to feed our community. Or drop off non-perishable food items.

Western cities have some of the biggest ‘carbon hoofprints’ in the U.S., study finds: “Researchers from the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota mapped what they call the ‘carbon hoofprint’ of more than 3,500 U.S. cities — a measure of greenhouse gas emissions tied to meat consumption … In the Mountain West and Southwest, cities tend to have higher ‘carbon hoofprints,’ since much of their beef comes from dry, feedlot-heavy regions that require significant feed and water resources.” (KUNR)
