Hoping our neighbors in Reno are staying safe from the Hawk Fire. From the images I’ve seen on social media, this wildfire has spread remarkably quick. It is currently at 15,000 acres and 0% containment.
Unfortunately, 85% of wildfires are human-caused—whether it’s campfires left unattended, the burning of debris, equipment use and malfunctions, discarded cigarettes, or intentional acts of arson. It’s always best to be prepared in case of an emergency evacuation.

“We were lucky to come across a group of burros while passing through Beatty,” she said in her email. They’re so cute!
So is it donkey or burro? Well, burro is donkey in Spanish. According to Travel Nevada, donkeys were originally an African species that evolved to thrive in arid climates, but in the 1500s the Spanish brought the donkey to the Americas. So all these years later, the now-wild burros roam our desert, and many people kept up the tradition with the Spanish word. 🫏

Nevadans will be voting for the Secretary of State, 🔍 the seat responsible for keeping Nevada’s elections secure, this upcoming election. The choice is between incumbent Cisco Aguilar and election denier Jim Marchant.
The race is critical because the position oversees voting in Nevada, a key battleground state. If Marchant wins, it could reshape how Nevada administers —and certifies results—for the 2028 presidential election.
