Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto pressed Chris Klomp, Trump’s nominee for deputy HHS secretary, over what she described as cuts to federal funding for state Medicaid Fraud Control Units. Klomp acknowledged that government investments in fighting fraud, waste and abuse can generate major returns and called that spending a “wise investment.” Cortez Masto’s point: if those programs work, why cut the federal dollars supporting them?
