De acuerdo a un reporte preliminar del Departamento de Policía Metropolitana de Las Vegas, ambos elementos de la corporación policiaca, estaban brindando asistencia a un motorista cuando un vehículo los arrolló. El gobernador Joe Lombardo expresó mediante un comunicado: "Estoy profundamente devastado por la muerte de dos de nuestros valerosos elementos de la Policía Estatal de Nevada que perdieron la vida esta mañana.
