Our community celebrates the holidays with joy, and every time this year we’re reminded it is the time of year to show generosity to others.  Many parents continue to teach their children family traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation.

Humberto Peña, an extraordinary person from Las Vegas, frequently shared that upon the arrival of the holiday season, we celebrate the holidays with the jubilee contained in our childhood days, trying to stay true to the same traditions our parents and grandparents taught us.  These fond and dear memories allow us to shower and give our children the joy and happiness that we once received; sometimes more, sometimes less, but with the same noble intentions. Christmas allows us to travel back in time to rejoice in our fond and connect those same feelings and experiences with our loved ones.

Let’s celebrate this Christmas offering the world the best version of ourselves, with love in our hearts: love for ourselves, our family, our peers, our friends and even for those who don’t love us.  Humanity is very much in need of the light and goodness that Christmas brings out in everyone this time of year.  We should not settle for demonstrating good will towards mankind for only a few days, but continue to show charity, generosity, and care for others every day.

Durante una ceremonia realizada el miércoles 20 de diciembre de 2023 en el Ayuntamiento de Las Vegas, el cónsul de México en esta jurisdicción, Julián Escutia Rodríguez entregó el reconocimiento Ohtli, que consiste de un medallón, una roseta de plata y un diploma a Jorge Cervantes, exgerente de la ciudad de Las Vegas. 

• The Clark County Education Association and the Clark County School District have come to a “historic” contract agreement after months of negotiations.
On Wednesday, the Arbitrator rendered his decision to accept the negotiated agreement between CCEA and CCSD, which will provide teachers with a nearly 20 percent increase over the next two years. (Click here to read more.)

• Una mirada al colorido trabajo de Jorge Betancourt-Polanco. El artista publicó una de las primeras obras literarias dirigidas al público infantil “Dreamygirl’s field of wishes” (Ensoñación y el jardín de sueños), que presentó con motivo de la décimo cuarta edición de la Feria del Libro de Las Vegas. Recientemente dio a conocer que tiene lista una nueva publicación titulada: “Dreamygirl’s and the treasure at the end of the rainbow” (Ensoñación y el tesoro al final del arcoíris). (Lee más aquí)

• “Winter in the Desert”, muestra talento del estudiante Jorge Saldana-Cruz. fue develado el espectacular “Invierno en el desierto”, la pieza ganadora de un concurso -convocado en escuelas del Condado Clark- que impresionó al jurado seleccionador porque captura maravillosamente la esencia de esta temporada, mostrando una perspectiva vibrante e imaginativa que refleja, tanto habilidad artística, como un gran aprecio por los paisajes únicos de nuestra región. • This federal program is saving Nevadans money on their internet–here’s how to sign up. Since the passage of the 2021 infrastructure law, over 20 million households have signed up for the  Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which cuts internet bills by up to $30 per month, or $75 for households on tribal lands or in certain rural areas. It also provides a one-time $100 discount of a connected device. (Read more here)
