After comments made by Donald Trump during a congratulatory call with the men’s Olympic hockey team. Trump joked that he would “have to” invite the women’s team — who also won a gold medal — to the White House too, adding that otherwise he would “probably be impeached.”
While most members of the men’s team later attended the White House and State of the Union, the women’s team declined the invitation, citing scheduling and professional commitments. In response, Flavor Flav publicly invited the women’s team to Las Vegas in a viral social media post, writing: “If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite … I’ll host them in Las Vegas.” What began as an invitation to the U.S. women’s hockey team has evolved into “SHE Weekend,” a four day celebration from July 16–19 in Las Vegas dedicated to honoring female Olympians, Paralympians and elite women athletes from across the sports world.
