For decades, the federal government has sought a single location to dump spend nuclear waste, and since 1987 has identified a site called Yucca Mountain as that site. Yucca Mountain is less than 100 miles from Las Vegas, and Nevada officials on both sides of the aisle have been in lockstep to prevent the project from ever taking off.
