As the 2025-2026 school year approaches, the Southern Nevada Health District is urging parents and guardians to vaccinate their students early to avoid delays.
Immunizations are available at clinics across the valley by appointment, as well as with pediatricians and local pharmacies.
“Getting your child vaccinated before school starts helps protect them from serious diseases and ensures a healthy year of learning,” said Cassius Lockett, SNHD’s District Health Officer. “Scheduling early helps families avoid stress and long waits.”
Students enrolling in the Clark County School District are required to be vaccinated against chickenpox, hepatitis A and B, polio, measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (DTaP and Tdap), and meningococcal (MenACWY).
Hepatitis A is required in Nevada but not all other states, so families who are new to the Silver State should check their child’s vaccination record.
The Health District also recommends optional vaccines, including HPV, Meningitis B, and COVID-19 to further protect children from illnesses.
Students between 7th and 12th grades are required to have the MenACWY vaccine. Seventh grade students must also receive the Tdap vaccine.
SNHD has several Public Health Centers across the valley, including on Main and Fremont streets, and in East Las Vegas, Henderson, and Mesquite, which offer vaccines by appointment. The health centers are also holding special back-to-school hours in July and August.
