Assemblymember Cinthia Moore of Southern Nevada introduced AB98, a bill that would see Nevada observe “Dolores Huerta Day” on April 10th of each year in honor of the labor activist and Chicano civil rights leader.
The bill — which comes after North Las Vegas opened the doors to the Dolores Huerta Community Center — mandates that the governor issue a yearly proclamation recognizing the day and encourages public schools and educational institutions to educate students about Dolores Huerta’s life and work.
AB98 passed out of the Assembly along party lines, with every Republican voting no. In the state Senate, only four Republicans voted against AB98. Update as of June 4: Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed AB98.
