Food, fun, and family are all reasons you should become a Reno Aces fan in 2025.

Feb. 3 marked winter’s halfway point. So whether it feels like it or not, spring is near. And for fans all around the country, spring means one thing: a return to the ballpark. The smell of hot dogs, the sound of the crowd, and the crack of the bat as baseball season starts back up for another season.

Following a late-March weekend series in Las Vegas, the Reno Aces return to Greater Nevada Field for their home opener on April 1. The AAA affiliate team for MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, the Reno Aces played their inaugural season in 2009 after moving from Tucson. Since that season, they’ve played at the new Greater Nevada Field, located right on the Truckee River in downtown Reno’s Riverwalk District.

Now heading into their 17th season, there are plenty of reasons to become a Reno Aces fan in 2025—if you’re not one already.

1. The price

One of the best parts about Minor League Baseball is its accessibility for all incomes, with tickets starting at just $12. In a review of the game experience at Greater Nevada Field last summer, C. Wesley Baier wrote, “This is a gorgeous ballpark, with excellent sight lines from every seat in the ballpark,” which means even the cheap seats are great seats.

2. The prospects

As the AAA affiliate for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Reno Aces are just one step down from the Big Leagues. Throughout the season, fans can watch any number of hot prospects play at Greater Nevada Field before moving up while also having the chance to see Major Leaguers make their way through Reno while rehabbing injuries or working out a slump.

Some notable names that have spent time on the Reno Aces’ roster over the years include Zack Greinke, Eric Chávez, Patrick Corbin, Didi Gregorius, and Clay Bocholz. Prospects to watch this year include Jordan Lawlar (SS), Yu-Min Lin (LHP), and A.J. Vukovich (OF).

3. They’re good

The Tucson Sidewinders, who preceded the Reno Aces from 1998 to 2008 but are still considered part of the same club history, took a while to find their footing. They played for five summers before finally achieving a winning season.

The Aces, on the other hand, have seen quick success. The team claimed its first and only Triple-A Championship in 2012, though they’ve come close multiple times since. The Aces won their second PCL championship in 2022 before losing the Triple-A Championship to the Durham Bulls after blowing a ninth-inning lead.

The 2024 Aces won the second-half title, earning them a playoff berth, but they lost the PCL championship against Sugar Land, two games to none. Be there for the whole journey this year as they seek their second Triple-A Championship.

4. Theme nights

Minor League Baseball parks are known for their theme nights, which give niche subcultures and fandoms a reason to congregate at the ballpark and connect with one another. Though the team has yet to release its promotional schedule, past events include Star Wars Day, Peanuts Night, Dog Day, Pride Night, and even an E.R.A.S. Night Taylor Swift dance party.

5. Family-friendly fun

There’s plenty for kids to do at Greater Nevada Field if they’re not into keeping score. A playground inside the park creates a grandstand for its own little ballfield-within-the-ballfield, complete with base paths. There are also fireworks after the game any time the team plays at home on Friday nights.

As C. Wesley Baier also points out, “The majority of the outfield is bordered by a catwalk, giving fans an excellent chance at catching a home run ball.” With that in mind, make sure everyone brings their gloves.

6. Prime location

Greater Nevada Field’s prime location on the river doesn’t just offer great views around the exterior park, but it also means there are plenty of great bars and restaurants right within walking distance of the ballpark for pregame and postgame fun.

And for the adults looking for some extracurricular activities, the El Dorado Casino is also within walking distance, which includes a top-rated sportsbook inside.

7. Great Food

It seems like Minor League Ballparks are in competition with each other across the country in an effort to raise the level of food available at their concession stands, and the fans win. The park is known for supporting local vendors, including hot dogs and sausages from Flocchini’s in Carson City, Franco Bakery in Sparks, and Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory in Mound House. In 2024, the team introduced new menu items like the chicken caprese panini (1st Base Bistro), nacho dogs (Home Plate Grill), and brisket sandwiches (3rd Base BBQ).

8. Archie!

Also known as the Round Mound of Red or the Sasquatch of the Sierra Mountains, Archie has been with the Aces since their arrival in Reno in 2009. The Archie’s Kids Club is for fans aged 3-14. Young fans can register for their official Kids Club membership at the Community Relations table at the top of Section 110.
